After training at art school and then by the Medical Artists' Association at Guy’s Hospital, London, I worked at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Institute of Urology as a medical artist before becoming a fulltime freelance illustrator. For over 30 years I have enjoyed and participated in all aspects of the profession especially in surgery, anatomy and dentistry.
I also work in medical publishing, pharmaceutical advertising and training, medico-legal, scientific and forensic imaging as well as illustrating books, leaflets and web sites, which are becoming very popular to help in the medical education of the general public. I have seen the work change from producing pen and ink and watercolours by hand to computer generated images and animation.
I am the art editor for Rob and Smith, Operative Surgery, which involves approximately 15 volumes of specialised and highly illustrated operative surgery.
Medical art has provided me with a wonderful profession that I thoroughly enjoy.
