Biography

Research and creation of original illustrations for publishing and academic clients worldwide in all fields of life, veterinary, medical and earth sciences. Illustrations are created digitally using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, but traditional media such as line, watercolour and halftone are also used when required. I aim to combine 100% scientific accuracy with the natural beauty of the subject, conveying the information required in an interesting, original and stimulating way.

Through my dual degree-level background in biology and art I can effectively bring together these two areas when creating an illustration. Specialties are biology, molecular and cell biology, veterinary and medical science, zoology, botany, ecology and palaeontology. From 2000-2005 I held a part-time position at Nature Publishing Group, London as an in-house scientific illustrator. In 2002 I was awarded a 1-year artists’ residency at the Grant Museum of Zoology, University College London. In 1993 I had an internship at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

In 2015 I was awarded the Pat Archer Award for my entry in the MAA exhibition of members’ work.

Please contact me if you are interested in commissioning me in any area of science or medicine and I will be very happy to discuss your requirements.
